A 96-year-old woman has been served a three-day eviction notice from her senior living home unless she pays $110,000.

Jean Jacques, who has been living in the property for 22 years, moved into the unit in Pacific Grove in 2002 after signing a lifetime contract with California-Nevada Methodist Homes.

Jacques says she made a $250,000 down payment when she moved into the property and went on to pay $5,000 in rent until her savings ran out.

But following a change in ownership, Jacques has been ordered to pay tens of thousands of dollars.

A couple of years ago, the homes were sold to Pacific Grove Senior, with Jacques believing that the lifetime contracts that were signed with the previous owners would be honored.

However, Pacifica Senior Living has now served Jacques with an eviction notice, asking her to pay $110,000 or leave.

It’s believed that the lifetime contracts – likе the one Jacques had – are now only applicable under California-Nevada Methodist Homes.

“I was sh.ocked,” she told KSBW.

“The reason I moved into Forest Hill Manor was to be taken care of for the rest of my life.

“I’m not going. They’ll have to bury me because I have no place to go.

“They have all my money.”

Meanwhile, Bob Sadler, president of Pacific Grove Senior Living’s residents’ association, said: “She’s devoted all of her savings and money into this place. What would you do… see her out on the sidewalk? I don’t think so, that’s insane to me.

“I don’t care what the legal ramifications are here. This is morally unthinkable.”

Complicating matters further, Elizabeth Campos of Alliance for Aging – who are helping Jacques fight the notice – has said that the eviction has not been approved by the Community Care Licensing Division.

“You know, it’s frustrating. You do get angry knowing that it’s an elderly person that was just told you need to leave the home you’ve been living in for 20 years,” said Campos.

“Where is this person going to go?”

It’s also reported that the eviction letter did not explain to Jacques how she could appeal the notice.

Those trying to fight for Jacques are calling on Pacific Grove Senior Living to honor the original contract and allow the elderly resident to stay in the home she’s lived in for 22 years.
