Sneaky Money Trick at the Supermarket

A grocery store shopper recently shared a story about falling for a common money trick at the supermarket. They want to share their experience to help others avoid getting scammed. In this particular case, a shopper at a Woolsworth grocery store in Brisbane, Australia noticed a sneaky tactic used by the supermarket giant.

The photo shared on Reddit shows a shelf full of John West canned tuna. The yellow signs on the shelf claim that the stocked items are on sale for only $1.35 each, which seems like a great deal. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the canned tuna does not actually qualify for the sale. The supermarket was charging the full price for the tuna cans even though they were placed near the sale items.

The shopper admitted to falling for the trick and ended up paying the full price at the register. They shared, “Well played, Woolies, you got me at the register for $2.60 each.” They also explained that although they saved a few pennies per can, it was not as much as the signs indicated. The register showed a discount of 60 cents per can, but the normal price was actually $2.80.

While some people believe that this tactic was a deliberate scheme by Woolsworth to increase the price of the canned tuna, others believe it may have been a simple mistake by an employee stocking the items in the wrong spot.

It’s important for us, as consumers, to be aware of such tricks and stay vigilant while shopping. Paying close attention to the details can save us from falling for these sneaky tactics. So, next time you’re at the supermarket, keep an eye out for any misleading pricing or placement of products. Stay savvy and make sure you’re getting the best deals!
