In big news for MAGA voters expecting to see real effort out of the new Trump Administration to take the fight to the left and start punishing it for the awful moves made over the past four years, the new administration is reportedly investigating Sen. Chuck Schumer for his threats made against two Supreme Court Justices in 2020.
The incident at hand came in March of 2020, when Senator Schumer spoke on the steps of the United States Supreme Court and seemed to threaten two Supreme Court Justices in particularly, Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, over the potential that they would overturn Roe v. Wade. He said that, if they did so, they would “pay a price.”
In that angry speech directed toward the justices, he said, “Over the last three years, women’s reproductive rights have come under attack in a way we haven’t seen in modern history. From Louisiana to Missouri, to Texas, Republican legislatures are waging a war on women, all women, and they’re taking away fundamental rights.”
Continuing and getting to the threatening portion of the speech after stirring up anger with those inflammatory phrases, the senator said, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
He gave a non-apology a few days later, saying during a speech on the Senate floor that he hadn’t meant to threaten the justices. In that weasel-like non-apology, Schumer said that he “shouldn’t have used the words I did.” He then claimed that conservatives were trying to unfairly use his comments to “generate outrage.”
Chief Justice Roberts, at the time, issued a rare, for him, criticism of Sen. Schumer and his threats toward the two justices, saying, “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, but they are also dangerous.”
While an ethics complaint against Schumer was filed at the time and went nowhere, now the Trump Administration is in the early steps of taking action. In fact, in a January 21 letter that was obtained by the Washington Post, interim D.C. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin confirmed that an investigation into Schumer has been opened and is in its preliminary stages.
He said, in that letter, that he has opened a “preliminary inquiry” into Schumer’s threatening comments toward Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. Continuing, he said in the letter, which was addressed to Sen. Schumer, “We take threats against public officials very seriously. I look forward to your cooperation.”
Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton posted abou the matter on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “NEW: Schumer under investigation by @RealDonaldTrump DOJ over his threats against conservative Supreme Court justices. Letter of “inquiry” sent by Acting DC US Attorney Ed Martin–WPOST.” That came as a quote tweet to a 2022 post in which he said, “Schumer should have been (and should be) criminally prosecuted for his threats targeting two Supreme Court justices.” Watch him explain why Schumer should face legal consequences here:
Fitton was calling on Trump to investigate Sen. Schumer in 2020, when the senator made his threats against the two justices. On what was then called Twitter, he posted, “OUTRAGE: @RealDonaldTrump should order DOJ investigation — Schumer must be held accountable for his threats against the Supreme Court.”
