Border Czar Tom Homan addressed Selena Gomez’s emotional outburst during a segment on Fox News on Monday afternoon, asserting that he feels “no remorse” and intends to continue his efforts unabated. A video in which the pop singer was seen tearfully expressing her distress over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies was removed shortly after it gained widespread attention on Monday.
In the footage, Gomez expressed her anguish, stating, “All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do,” accompanied by a Mexican flag emoji on the screen. Despite her heartfelt appeal, Homan maintained his resolute position on border enforcement.
Gomez, who has consistently advocated for immigration reform, encountered criticism on social media, with many suggesting that she is disconnected from the realities of border security. In light of the negative feedback, Gomez shared another message on her Instagram Story, remarking, “Apparently, it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”
During an interview with Fox News on Monday, Homan was prompted to comment on Gomez’s now-removed video and the wider criticism that immigration enforcement disproportionately affects families. “I don’t think we arrested any families,” Homan stated. “We’ve arrested public safety threats and national security threats, bottom line. And look, President Trump won the election on this one issue—securing our border and saving lives.”
Homan elaborated, “What transpired on our southern border over the last four years represents the most significant national security threat this country has faced, at least in my lifetime, as we have over two million known gotaways. There has been a 600% increase in sex trafficking, a record number of terrorists crossing the border from the terrorist watch list, and a quarter million Americans have died from fentanyl entering through the open border.”
Despite facing criticism from various celebrities and activists, Homan emphasized that the administration remains steadfast in its mission. “We’re going to do this job.”
This operation will proceed without any apologies. Our objective is to enhance the safety of our community. Once we secure the border and advance this initiative, you will witness a reduction in fentanyl-related fatalities, a decline in crimes committed by illegal immigrants, and a decrease in sex trafficking incidents. The Border Czar concluded by stating, “This is all for the benefit of our nation, and we will persist in striving towards these objectives. There will be no apologies. We are advancing.”
Since assuming office on January 20, the Trump administration has maintained a firm stance on immigration. A significant policy reinstated by Trump is the “Remain in Mexico” program, which mandates that asylum seekers remain outside the United States while their claims are processed. Furthermore, the administration has discontinued the use of Biden’s CBP One app and has intensified deportation efforts.
The administration’s initiatives have garnered substantial public support, with surveys conducted by both The New York Times and Fox News indicating that a majority of Americans endorse the deportation of criminals and gang members. Federal agencies, including the DEA and ATF, have been granted enhanced authority to work in conjunction with ICE to implement enforcement actions.
In spite of the heartfelt appeals from Gomez and other Hollywood figures, the Trump administration remains steadfast. The government is focused on large-scale deportations, aiming to address the situation of approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.
