Late one evening, a Marine arrived in a small town, hoping to find a hotel room for the night. However, to his dismay, every hotel room was taken. Determined to find a place to rest, he reached the last hotel in town.
Desperate, the Marine pleaded with the manager, “You must have a spare room or even just a bed. I don’t care where, I just need a place to sleep.”
The honest manager sighed and replied, “Well, I do have a double room with one occupant, a Navy guy. He might be willing to split the cost with you, but I must warn you, he snores so loudly that people in the adjoining rooms have complained in the past. It might not be worth it.”
Undeterred, the tired Marine assured the manager, “No problem, I’ll take it.”
The next morning, the Marine came down to breakfast looking refreshed and full of energy.
Curious, the manager asked, “How did you sleep?”
“Never better,” replied the Marine with a smile.
Impressed, the manager inquired further, “So, the other guy’s snoring didn’t bother you?”
“Nope,” the Marine said proudly. “I took care of it.”
Perplexed, the manager asked, “Oh? How did you manage that?”
Grinning mischievously, the Marine explained, “Well, when I entered the room, he was already in bed, snoring away. So, I went over, gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek, and said, ‘Goodnight, beautiful.’ After that, he stayed up all night watching me, too afraid to sleep and disturb my peace.”
