Donald Trump is ready to give federal workers the boot if they don’t fall in line. Trump said that any federal workers who refuse to return to the office will be fired, despite anything Joe Biden put in place. Trump plans to challenge the deal between the Social Security Administration and the union, a deal that allows the federal workers to telework until 2029.
Trump called the deal ‘ridiculous’ and ‘terrible’ and suggested it was nothing more than a ‘gift to the union.’ Trump plans to take it to court in a challenge and put a stop to it. A syndicated news report on MSN added more information, saying the following:
“If people don’t come back to work, come back into the office, they’re going to be dismissed,” said Trump, who will be sworn in for a second term Jan. 20.
Work-from-home policies for the federal workforce have come under scrutiny by the leaders of Trump’s newly created Department of Government Efficiency, billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have said they are looking to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget.
“Requiring federal employees to come to the office five days a week would result in a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome: If federal employees don’t want to show up, American taxpayers shouldn’t pay them for the Covid-era privilege of staying home,” Musk and Ramaswamy wrote in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal last month.
People who work from home might be conflicted on this. However, this is the government, so if they’re getting paid a nice salary with benefits, then maybe they can go into the office and get things done.
